  • We are Ofsted Outstanding again!

Thu 28 Sep 2023 Sara Gibson

It has been a busy Autumn Term with 48 new children joining us since September.  It has been lovely getting to know them and their families as they join our children from last year; a big welcome to Broomhall.  If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to call, email or pop into the office.

We had been expecting an Ofsted visit this term and the call came at the end of September with the two Ofsted inspectors onsite the following day.  They observed staff in the classrooms, talked with parents, governors and senior leaders and we are extremely proud that they have found us still to be Outstanding.  The full report can be found under Key Information and Ofsted from the drop down menus.

Staff changes this term included Michele taking up the post of Teacher in Busy Bees three days a week opposite Natalie.  Homeira has moved to her new TA3 role opposite Jeanette in the Bungalow and Judith has now moved to concentrate on her SENCo role, putting her valuable experience and skills into this busy role working with our children with SEND and external Early Years Specialist staff who come onsite.

Look out for our Parent/Governor Coffee Mornings and Afternoons and Saturday Specials - all a great chance to meet other parents and network.  Remember to sign up for a consultation with your child's Key Person (links to the booking system have been emailed).  All events are added to our Calendar on this website which you can find under News and Events, Calendar from the drop down menus.

  • Spring Term

Thu 18 May 2023 Sara Gibson

This term we have been full at nursery with 101 children and no more admissions until September.  Primary School teachers have been coming into nursery to meet children moving onto school and parents have been to chat with their child's key person about their development and progress and to look at their Learning Journey observations.

The summer term is always an exciting time at nursery with a focus on growing and the anticipation of warmer weather to come so that we can enjoy our wonderful outdoor environment.  The children (and parents) have been excited to see the eggs hatch and the nursery has been filled with the sound of chicks for the past week.  They will return to the farm tomorrow to start their new adventure and explore the big outdoors!

The caterpillars have cocooned and will now be put into the viewing net outside reception.  They should hopefully emerge as butterflies by the end of next week and the children will see them fly off in the garden.

Finally, our Saturday Special which focused on gardening, was a great success and was attended by lots of our children and families, who dug over and replanted the raised beds in the back garden, potted seeds to take home, made pictures from natural leaves and petals and made their own sandwiches for lunch.

Our next Saturday Special will be on the 10th June and will form part of Sheffield’s Early Education Centenary celebrations. Please watch out for the flyer coming soon.

  • Autumn Term Roundup

Thu 24 Nov 2022 Sara Gibson

With lots of uncertainty around us at the moment in every day life, we aim to make nursery a little microcosm of happiness into which all our families, children and staff come together each day.  The children are a great inspiration with their boundless energy and enthusiasm for learning. Their constant chatter, singing and laughter bring us a sense of purpose and hope.

With only three weeks left of the Autumn Term, we will shortly be preparing for the festive season and putting up our Christmas trees and decorations.  It has been a busy term in nursery with 37 new children joining us since September and a further 14 accepting places to join us in January.  We are now operating a Waiting List for any further applications as demand has been so high.

This term we had our first Saturday Special, themed around 'Bonfire Night' with some families bringing older siblings who had attended Broomhall in the past - it was a great success with activities taking place in both the classroom and outside.  Look out for our next Saturday Special which we hope to announce in January.

Staff are getting children's Learning Journey's updated in readiness for Parental Consultations next week and also getting to grips with using the new Development Map software.  The Development Map has been designed to show young children’s learning and progress in a holistic way so that practitioners, teachers, parents and carers can see the ‘whole child’ and understand the complex nature of their development and progress from birth to 6 yrs old.  It gives a more 'visual' representation of progress (see the picture below) rather than just data/numbers meaning both progress and areas requiring improvement can be seen at a glance.

Nursery has not only been about the children, but for parents we have been holding regular Parent/Governor coffee mornings.  This is a great opportunity for parents to network with each other, take time for themselves and to have the chance to talk with one of our Parent Governors who can offer advice on a range of areas as well as giving feedback from parents to us.  We presently have an opening for a Parent Governor and a Co-Opted Governor so if this is something you are interested in, please contact the nursery to learn more.
