  • Autumn Term Roundup

Thu 24 Nov 2022 Sara Gibson

With lots of uncertainty around us at the moment in every day life, we aim to make nursery a little microcosm of happiness into which all our families, children and staff come together each day.  The children are a great inspiration with their boundless energy and enthusiasm for learning. Their constant chatter, singing and laughter bring us a sense of purpose and hope.

With only three weeks left of the Autumn Term, we will shortly be preparing for the festive season and putting up our Christmas trees and decorations.  It has been a busy term in nursery with 37 new children joining us since September and a further 14 accepting places to join us in January.  We are now operating a Waiting List for any further applications as demand has been so high.

This term we had our first Saturday Special, themed around 'Bonfire Night' with some families bringing older siblings who had attended Broomhall in the past - it was a great success with activities taking place in both the classroom and outside.  Look out for our next Saturday Special which we hope to announce in January.

Staff are getting children's Learning Journey's updated in readiness for Parental Consultations next week and also getting to grips with using the new Development Map software.  The Development Map has been designed to show young children’s learning and progress in a holistic way so that practitioners, teachers, parents and carers can see the ‘whole child’ and understand the complex nature of their development and progress from birth to 6 yrs old.  It gives a more 'visual' representation of progress (see the picture below) rather than just data/numbers meaning both progress and areas requiring improvement can be seen at a glance.

Nursery has not only been about the children, but for parents we have been holding regular Parent/Governor coffee mornings.  This is a great opportunity for parents to network with each other, take time for themselves and to have the chance to talk with one of our Parent Governors who can offer advice on a range of areas as well as giving feedback from parents to us.  We presently have an opening for a Parent Governor and a Co-Opted Governor so if this is something you are interested in, please contact the nursery to learn more.
